New Bipartisan Bill Proposes Mandatory Reporting of AI-Related Job Disruptions

The “AI-Related Job Impacts Clarity Act,” a legislative proposal introduced by Senators Mark Warner (D-VA) and Josh Hawley (R-MO), would mandate that government agencies and publicly-traded companies disclose employment shifts directly resulting from artificial intelligence. This includes reporting on the number of staff members laid off, newly hired, and retrained due to AI’s influence. This bipartisan initiative surfaces mere weeks after labor union leaders publicly called for increased regulatory measures concerning AI technologies.

Senator Warner emphasized the necessity of reliable data for effective policy-making, stating:

“Good policy starts with good data. This bipartisan legislation will finally give us a clear picture of AI’s impact on the workforce – what jobs are being eliminated, which workers are being retrained, and where new opportunities are emerging.”
