Major Breakthrough: Eleven Umrani Gang Members Surrender After Police Operation in Rajanpur Katcha Area

Jan 20, 2026

In a significant breakthrough against organized crime, eleven Umrani gang members surrendered after a police operation in Rajanpur's katcha areaon Sunday. This major development marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing campaign to restore peace and order in these historically challenging regions.

Sophisticated Police Operation Targets Criminal Strongholds

Rajanpur police spearheaded a meticulously planned targeted operation across the Katcha Umrani, Sukhani, and Katcha Karachi areas. Utilizing modern surveillance technology, including drones, law enforcement officers effectively shelled and neutralized the hideouts and bunkers used by these notorious criminals. The intensive action culminated in the voluntary surrender of eleven key figures from the Umrani gang, who also handed over a substantial cache of heavy weapons and and arms to authorities.

Authorities Vow Strict Action and Continued Pressure

District Police Officer (DPO) Rajanpur, Muhammad Imran, confirmed that the surrendered individuals were long-sought fugitives implicated in numerous heinous crimes, including kidnapping, murder, and armed robbery. DPO Imran emphasized that these suspects would face the full force of the law, ensuring they receive appropriate punishment for their offenses. He also noted that an intense exchange of fire was still underway with other remaining dacoits in the vicinity, issuing a stern warning for all criminal elements to surrender immediately or face severe consequences.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar lauded the exceptional performance of the Rajanpur police force and commended the officers involved for their bravery and strategic execution. He reiterated the unwavering commitment of the police to continue the vigorous campaign aimed at eradicating crime from the katcha areas.

A Broader Strategy: Recent Surrenders and the New Policy

This latest surrender is not an isolated incident but part of a larger, coordinated effort. Just last week, the notorious katcha area dacoit Mera Lathani, who carried a staggering head money of Rs10 million, along with his accomplices Fida alias Rathor Lathani and Zulfi Lathani, also surrendered in Rahim Yar Khan. Similarly, in October of the previous year, 72 wanted dacoits from Sindh’s Shikarpur district laid down their weapons, many of whom had bounties on their heads. Officials described these collective developments as a significant turning point for regions historically plagued by crime and lawlessness.

These surrenders are facilitated under President Asif Ali Zardari’s new surrender policy, approved in 2024. The policy's primary objective is to restore peace and reclaim the katcha areas falling under the Sukkur and Larkana divisions. Under its provisions, surrendered bandits are required to face all pending criminal cases before they become eligible for inclusion in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), a clear incentive for abandoning a life of crime.
