Ikea's Latest Smart Home Collection Fully Embraces Matter Compatibility
Ikea has unveiled an extensive collection of 21 newMatter-over-Threadsmart home devices, designed to simplify the creation of interconnected smart homes across various brands and platforms. This launch introduces a mix of brand-new products alongside enhanced versions of existing offerings, bringing fresh features and capabilities to users.
Hints of this collection emerged earlier in the year during an exclusive interview with Ikea's David Granath. The company initially committed toMattersmart home standard support when it first announced itsDirigerahub in May 2022. Despite a multi-year delay,Mattersupport for the hub eventually rolled out in a beta phase in March 2024. Subsequently, Ikea further updated theDirigerahub, enabling it to act as a bridge, connecting the company's existingZigbee-based smart home devices with otherMatter-enabled systems. More recently, theDirigerahub received another update, transforming it into aMatter controller, which means it can now integrate and manageMatterdevices from other manufacturers directly through Ikea’sHome Smartapp.
The global rollout for this newMatter-compatible smart home collection is anticipated to begin as soon as this month in select regions. However, customers in the US will need to wait a bit longer, with smart remotes and sensors scheduled for availability in Ikea stores starting January 2026, followed by smart bulbs in April 2026. In the interim, Ikea is deploying an app and hub update this week, officially making theMatter controllerfunctionality accessible to all users.
New Smart Home Products Detailed
Kajplats Smart Bulbs
Ikea's smart bulbs have consistently ranked among its most sought-after smart home items. The newKajplatscollection streamlines the selection with 11 variations, making it simpler for customers to choose. This lineup includes standard globe-shaped 60mmE27/E26bulbs, compact 45mmP45 E17/E14/E12bulbs, andGU10directional spotlight bulbs. Each of these is available in either dimmable white spectrum or full color-changing options. Additionally, Ikea is introducing clear decorative bulbs, offered in three sizes up to 95mm, though these are exclusively available in the white spectrum. While Ikea transitions its smart home products fromZigbeetoMatter-over-Thread, these new bulbs maintain compatibility with older Ikea wireless remotes and can even function independently, without theHome Smartapp orDirigerahub, for those who prefer a more straightforward setup.
Bilresa Wireless Remotes
Confirming previous rumors, Ikea is launching two newMatter-compatible wireless remotes, dubbedBilresa, which break away from product-specific designs. These remotes will be available in a simplified two-button model and a version featuring a scroll wheel. Both can manage basic functions like turning lights on and off and adjusting brightness, but their core innovation lies in their generic design, enabling compatibility with a broader range of device types. The scroll wheel remote offers added versatility, allowing control over multiple device groups, which can be toggled via a button on its base. This means you could, for instance, use the scroll wheel to adjust the volume of a smart speaker, then switch modes to control the color of your smart lights. Ikea plans to offer bothBilresaremote versions individually, as well as in convenient three-packs (red, green, and beige) to help users visually distinguish their assigned functions or controlled devices.
Grillplats Smart Plug
Complementing these remotes is Ikea’s newGrillplatssmart plug, which allows for remote control of lamps and smaller appliances, in addition to tracking their energy consumption.
New Smart Sensors
Completing Ikea's expanded smart home collection are five innovative new smart sensors. TheMyggsprayis an indoor/outdoor motion sensor, capable of triggering lights upon detection. For security and automation, theMyggbettacts as a door/window sensor, activating lights or sending notifications when a door or window is opened or closed. The discreetKlippbokwater sensor is designed to fit under appliances, alerting users to leaks via notifications and its own integrated audible alarm. TheTimmerflotte, a puck-shaped temperature and humidity sensor, displays both measurements on a pixelated LED screen with a simple button press. This sensor is particularly useful for maintaining desired temperatures throughout your home, even in areas distant from your main thermostat. Finally, theAlpstuga, while resembling a desktop clock, is Ikea’s inaugural air quality sensor. It provides readings forCO2, airbornePM2.5particles, temperature, and humidity. This sensor is engineered to integrate with Ikea's existing air purifiers, effectively extending their air quality monitoring capabilities to additional rooms.

While US pricing has yet to be disclosed, Ikea has provided UK pricing details for the new lineup. TheKajplatsbulbs will range from £4 to £9 (approximately $5.21 to $11.73 USD). The two-button remote is priced at £3, and the scroll wheel remote at £4. TheKlippbok,Myggbett, andMyggspraysensors will each cost £7, while theTimmerflottetemperature/humidity sensor is £5.
