Maryam Nawaz Unveils Ramazan Relief Drive in Punjab: Nigehban Cards & Anti-Profiteering Measures
Feb 18, 2026
Lahore, Pakistan – As the holy month of Ramazan approaches, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officiallyunveiled a comprehensive Ramazan relief drive in Punjab, a crucial initiative by the provincial government to ease the burden on citizens. This extensive program, focusing on both direct aid and stringent market controls, aims to ensure essential commodities are accessible and affordable for millions of families across the province.
Empowering Families with Nigehban Cards
A cornerstone of this ambitious drive is the distribution of Ramazan Nigehban cards, set to benefit an astounding four million families throughout Punjab. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz confirmed that over 400,000 of these crucial cards have already reached beneficiaries, with the complete rollout projected to conclude by the 10th of Ramazan. Under this scheme, each eligible family will receive Rs10,000, conveniently withdrawable through ATMs, offering tangible financial support during the sacred month.
Emphasizing transparency and accountability, CM Maryam Nawaz issued a stern warning against any official or agent found soliciting money from the public in connection with the program, promising severe penalties for such misconduct. To streamline the process, authorities have established 167 dedicated camp sites across various districts, facilitating easy access for beneficiaries.
Cracking Down on Profiteering and Ensuring Fair Prices
Addressing one of the most pressing concerns during Ramazan, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to take resolute action against profiteers and hoarders. She tasked the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) and district price control committees with implementing robust measures to curb inflation and guarantee the availability of essential goods at government-notified rates. Furthermore, to enhance convenience for shoppers, restrictions on market and shopping centre timings have been lifted for the duration of the holy month.
Beyond regulatory enforcement, relief will also be extended through specially designated Ramazan and Sahulat bazaars. These markets are designed to offer essential food items at approximately 15 percent below prevailing market rates, providing direct savings to consumers and combating price gouging.
Comprehensive Support Beyond Financial Aid
The Ramazan relief drive extends its reach far beyond financial assistance. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the establishment of nearly 300 Nigehban dastarkhwans across 147 cities, ensuring that quality meals are provided to fasting individuals who are in need. In parallel, urban centers across Punjab are undergoing special decoration and enhanced cleanliness drives to foster a serene and welcoming environment for Ramazan.
Security arrangements are also being significantly bolstered. CM Maryam Nawaz instructed enhanced security measures at mosques, bus terminals, and railway stations, alongside improved sanitation across cities, underscoring a holistic approach to citizen well-being during the holy month.
A Vision of Compassion and Responsibility
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underscored that Ramazan is fundamentally a month of compassion. She reiterated the state's responsibility to ensure relief effectively reaches its citizens, particularly low-income families. The government is committed to making every possible effort to provide food security, safety, and convenience, embodying the spirit of solidarity and support throughout Ramazan.
