Historically, obtaining a driving license or filing a First Information Report (FIR) often felt like a day-long ordeal, marred by lengthy queues, traffic congestion, and overwhelming waiting times. Thankfully, Punjab’s new governance model aims to bring public services directly to citizens, thereby saving significant time and effort. The introduction of the Mobile Police Station Punjab stands as the most prominent symbol of this transformative approach.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Mobile Police Station and Licensing Unit Project, the first of its kind in Punjab. She emphasized that this initiative represents a forward-thinking vision, extending beyond a mere vehicle to truly enhance the mobility and accessibility of public services. During the launch event, the Chief Minister personally inspected the new mobile unit, commended the dedicated staff, and underscored the improved approach anticipated for public mobility services.
This innovative mobile unit is designed to bridge the gap between citizens and essential state services, effectively removing geographical and procedural barriers. By eliminating the need for individuals to travel to physical offices for licenses or police assistance, it will significantly save time. The groundbreaking Mobile Police Station Punjab prioritizes and maximizes citizen convenience.
Citizens can now conveniently perform crucial tasks directly through these mobile units, including registering FIRs, obtaining various types of driving licenses—such as learner, regular, international, and the special women’s driving license—as well as renewing existing ones. The Mobile Police Station Punjab offers a comprehensive suite of services to ensure wide-ranging public access.
Following a demonstration of the project's operations, Chief Minister Sharif declared,“This initiative represents a revolutionary stride in bringing policing and licensing services directly to people’s doorsteps.”She further instructed staff to engage with citizens displaying“courteous and empathetic behavior.”
Officials confirmed that the mobile units will initially target underserved communities, focusing on locations like girls' educational institutions, areas densely populated by working women, and remote regions. This strategic deployment aims to alleviate the burden of costly and exhausting travel for citizens, maximizing the social impact of the Mobile Police Station Punjab initiative.
In its commitment to upholding road safety, the Punjab Police has significantly boosted resources for both license management and enforcing traffic laws against offenders. Recent 24-hour statistics highlight the police's concentrated effort on both issuing licenses and rigorous law enforcement. This dual focus is integral to the overarching mission of the Mobile Police Station Punjab.
The Punjab Police Department showcased remarkable efficiency by granting driving privileges to over 23,000 individuals. A police representative confirmed,“Within the last 24 hours, approximately 23,779 documents were processed, leading to the issuance of driving privileges to 23,781 individuals.”
Alongside the robust issuance of driving rights, traffic enforcement remains equally stringent. Over the same 24-hour period, the police's enforcement division issued more than 37,000 fines for illegal traffic violations, accumulating over 21 million in police-registered penalties. Demonstrating environmental awareness, authorities also issued 343 fines for vehicles emitting excessive smoke, with 29 of these imposed even at police stations. This concerted effort reinforces the overall efficiency of the Mobile Police Station Punjab initiative.
The Inspector General of Punjab Police has issued clear directives, prioritizing the apprehension of traffic violators and establishing road and ecological safety as a primary protective measure for citizens. To cultivate a culture of responsible driving, the Inspector General highlighted that 127 driving training schools are operated by the Punjab Police across the province. The ultimate success of the Mobile Police Station Punjab will be evaluated based on both its service delivery effectiveness and its contribution to improved safety outcomes.
This enhancement of the Mobile Police Station and Licensing Unit Project transcends a mere infrastructural improvement; it signals a progressive transformation in governance. Punjab is evolving to be more efficient, courteous, and secure, all while upholding the strictness of the law. This initiative clearly prioritizes the needs of its citizens, embodying a vision of comprehensive public service for the Mobile Police Station Punjab.
