Jan 26, 2026
In a significant development for Pakistan's logistics sector,Punjab IGP Dr. Usman Anwar has assured the Transporters’ Muttahida Action Committee (TMAC) of swift resolution to transporters’ issues, outlining a comprehensive plan to address their long-standing concerns. This proactive stance, announced during a crucial meeting with TMAC Chairman Asmat Ullah Niazi at the Central Police Office in Lahore, signals a renewed commitment to fostering a supportive environment for the transport industry.
Addressing Core Challenges for Transporters
During the productive session, attended by DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir and other senior police officials, detailed discussions centered on enhancing traffic law enforcement and mitigating the operational hurdles faced by transporters. IGP Anwar specifically pledged collaborative efforts with the Transport Department and other relevant authorities to tackle critical issues, including the provision of designated vehicle stands, streamlining route permits, rationalizing toll taxes, and ensuring fair fitness certificate processes.
Ensuring Justice and Security on the Roads
A key commitment from the IGP was the promise of prompt registration of First Information Reports (FIRs) for serious incidents such as abductions of freight vehicles and the theft of goods. This initiative aims to bolster security for valuable cargo and deter criminal activities targeting the transport community.
Furthermore, Dr. Anwar unequivocally assured that transporters and drivers possessing complete documentation and adhering strictly to existing regulations would face no arbitrary legal actions, challans, or FIRs. This measure is set to promote compliance while safeguarding legitimate operations from unwarranted interference.
Strengthening Inter-Departmental Cooperation
Recognizing the multi-faceted nature of these challenges, the IGP outlined a strategic schedule for inter-departmental dialogue. TMAC Chairman Asmat Ullah Niazi is slated to meet with the IG Motorways on Thursday to deliberate on specific resolution measures concerning Motorway-related issues. A subsequent follow-up meeting between Chairman Niazi and IGP Punjab is scheduled for Friday, dedicated to reviewing the progress achieved and ensuring accountability on decisions made.
Dedicated Support and Facilitation by Punjab Police
To ensure immediate action on grievances and foster a responsive support system, the Punjab Police has established a dedicated focal person. This official will be responsible for swiftly addressing complaints related to unjust challans, instances of harassment, or any allegations of corruption. IGP Anwar underscored the Traffic Police's unwavering commitment to extending full cooperation to the transport industry, promising maximum support and assistance in resolving their challenges, thereby paving the way for a more efficient and secure logistics network across Punjab.
